Carbide Insert Grades Chart
53 carbide insert grades from 9 brands — ISCAR, Kennametal, Korloy, Mitsubishi, Sandvik, Seco, TaeguTec, Tungaloy, Walter — with ISO application position, coating and verified equivalent grades from other brands, cross-referenced from manufacturer-published charts. One page per grade; same data as the designation index. Chart placement is not an interchangeability claim — verify on a sample part. Brand charts: the full Kennametal grade chart lists every Kennametal grade in the reference DB, including those without a page here.

Carbide grade chart FAQ
How do I read a carbide insert grade chart?
Each grade is placed on the ISO 513 application scale: a letter for the material group (P steel, M stainless, K cast iron, N non-ferrous, S superalloys, H hardened steel) and a number from 01 to 50. Lower numbers mean higher wear resistance for finishing; higher numbers mean higher toughness for roughing and interrupted cuts.
How do I find the equivalent of a grade in another brand?
Look up the grade’s ISO application position, then find grades from other manufacturers published at the same position. Every grade page in this index lists its chart-verified comparable grades. This chart covers 53 grades; the AI advisor covers grades not yet listed here.
Are equivalent carbide grades interchangeable?
No. Grades at the same ISO application position are comparable starting points, not identical substitutes — substrate, coating and edge preparation differ between brands. Always verify on a sample part before switching.
